Four people were killed and nearly 50 injured in late October as a result of a car plowing into a large crowd gathered for the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade in Stillwater. Police say that the driver, Adacia Chambers, 25, of Stillwater, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). Chambers apparently first hit an unattended police motorcycle whose driver was directing security elsewhere in the parade, and from there her car drove into the crowd at high speed.

Chambers was later charged with second degree murder and her bail set at $1 million.

Three of the fatalities were adults. One was a severely injured 2-year-old boy who was taken to the Oklahoma University Medical Center and The Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. He later died at The Children’s Hospital.

Those killed in the crowd were Nakita Prabhakar Nakal, 23, a business student who had come from India to study at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, and Bonnie Jean Stone and Marvin Lyle Stone, both 65, of Stillwater. Marvin Stone had retired from the department of agricultural engineering at OSU. The former professor was described as popular with students.

Eight people were initially airlifted to local hospitals with critical injuries.

The homecoming game attracted a large crowd to the game against Kansas. The spectators observed a moment of silence in honor of the victims before the game began. Moments of silence were also observed at football games in Norman, Oklahoma. Vigils were held early in the week following the games.
