This may not qualify, but this teacher is my wife. I am so proud of her. She is currently a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Greenvale Elementary in the Western Heights School District and has been for 5 years. She has touched so many young lives at her school building. A lot of the kids that have went on to upper grades go out of their way to say hi to Mrs. Thomsen, when they see her on the school grounds. As her husband, I have seen Lori put in very long hours in her day. I've even spent weekends alone, because she thought it was important for her to get her classroom ready for her students. It's not uncommon for us to go days, without seeing each other, because, she is up early and will often stay late to prepare her classroom for her students. She told me once, that although she has a family of her own, she considers all of her students to be her children and she must give them the same care and attention that she does her own. There are many times during her busy week that she has been called upon to deal with a "misbehaving" student, that isn't even in her grade level and she has accepted that challenge with open arms. Mrs. Thomsen believes that instead of kicking a misbehaving student out of school and onto the streets in the middle of more danger, they need to stay in school, at the very least, where she and other teachers can direct that student and that student can still get the education that they need and deserve. She was recently chosen as the 2018-2019 "Teacher of the Year" for the Greenvale Elementary building and was nominated for the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce "Teacher of the Year".
